We’re now just a couple days from Creative Care - our curated series exploring the intersection of art, wellness, and seasonal inspiration 🌱

These offerings have held such tender opportunity for community to come together, to pause from everyday life. To slow and breathe deep. To witness, notice, and play.

Each month, we drop in, sip herbal tea, and create for the joy of creation itself. No pressure or expectations. Just presence with what is.

On 4/27 we’re crafting upcycled medicine pouches from scrap leather as we enjoy a warm cup of chai, and these sweet words by our co-facilitator @_l.akinyi offer a loving glimpse into the intention behind these gatherings:

“Chai feels like Home to me. There’s nothing like a warm cup of black tea, cardamom, ginger and masala spices with milk to immediately transport me.

Growing up in Kenya, we’d drive through tea farms on the way to visit my grandparents in the village. I remember looking across the vast fields of green, lost in them for kilometers, my siblings and I excited for the rare moments when our dad would stop and allow us to soak it in, maybe even pick a leaf or two.

I recently received a bag of chai from a friend and fellow Kenyan immigrant. For days, I thought of how the tea got to me…

From the farms in Kericho, leaves handpicked by workers I’ll likely never meet, dried in the sun, processed and transported by the truckload, to a grocery aisle in Nairobi, bought, packed and sent off with family who crossed borders, endured TSA and customs inspections, to finally be delivered to my friend - who was willing to share with me.

And now through this offering, I share this warmth from my Home with you.

At a time we are witnessing the dehumanization of immigrants on this land, I am called to be with my own humanity and remember the invisible acts of service that allow me the comforts I enjoy. A cup of this tea, that has passed through many hands and borders…is a call to memory for me.

And I trust, for those who are open to receive.”

SPRING WATER MEDICINE 💧⛰️🌀☀️

Somewhere between the silence of the pines and the trickle-song of the earth, I bent down to drink. Not just water, but memory. Mystery. The mountain’s own heartbeat.

What you see here is not a trendy hydration ritual. This is communion. A handshake with the planet. A covenant sealed in liquid quartz.

Wild spring water carries minerals, prana, and the poetry of place. It’s unprocessed, unbothered, unbottled. It hydrates at a level your cells have been praying for.

Benefits? Yes:
• Deep cellular hydration
• Trace minerals in bioavailable form
• Clarity, intuition, groundedness

As we shaped each rattle with care, we honored the wisdom of taking our time, of listening deeply, and of crafting something that holds both spirit and sound.

Rattles are the *perfect* tool to help you break up stagnant energy in both your space and your body, often utilized to create a “chaotic disruption” and pattern reset which allows you to literally SHAKE IT OFF (whatever it is) and begin again with a clean slate.

A lil bit of life lately…

• Today is our 12th anniversary?! Time fliiiiiies! 😭❤️‍🔥

• The cat distribution system has struck again and we’ve officially been adopted by another kitty! It’s a long story and our OG kitty daughter isn’t too pleased to welcome another lil bro into the family, but he is extremely insistent and literally won’t leave 😂 And also, we love him so it works out 🥹 Luckily they both seem to be sleeping just fine, as cats do.

• Family (both chosen and blood) has never felt more important. So grateful for this life and our people!

• Our children are rapidly growing into the funniest, quirkiest people on the face of the Earth. And also, parenting is weird and cool, and this will be our 4th year homeschooling which feels wiiild 🤪

• We’re all overcoming a brutal summer cold which has been totally LAME, but we’re finally regaining our spunk around here THANK GOD!

• We are hosting no less than SIX offerings this month sharing the regenerative power of sound therapy with our local community. Peep the deets and save yer seats! 🤠

• It’s been a long and beautiful summer full of play, and change, and chaos, and rest, and acceptance, and so many things…and NOW, we’re ready for fall!

Needing help doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human 😉

Society raised me to be a hyper-independent people pleasin’ “good girl.”

For sooo long (way longer than I’d like to admit) I felt shame for needing or wanting help or support. Like asking for support would immediately make me a burden to someone else, taking their attention or energy away from something more important.

As though somehow my desire for support meant I wasn’t good enough, or smart enough, or strong enough, or capable enough to do it on my own.

The last thing I ever wanted was to put anyone else out…but beneath that, I just didn’t want to admit that I needed or *wanted* anyone.

I had to be able to prove to myself I could do it all on my own, just in case the people I’d come to trust and rely on weren’t there for me one day.

Hello, childhood wounds? 🥲

It’s taken a long time not just to learn, but to truly KNOW *in my body* it is safe for me to ask for what I want and need - and more, there are people who are so genuinely happy and willing to be there for me.

In fact, people like to feel useful, and needed, and appreciated! And asking for support nurtures a level of connection and strength only born through our shared vulnerability and togetherness.

I was afraid to ask for anything because the very idea of needing someone else felt terrifying. But in reality, sharing these vulnerable, creative, collaborative parts of myself has granted me a new level of intimacy and depth in my relationships - and ironically, also helped me to strengthen a healthy sense of autonomy and trust in myself.

Besides, going through life *with* others is much better than isolating ourselves in the name of self-reliance, especially when all we’re really craving is cuddles and connection!

So I’ll say it again…needing help doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human 😌

Honestly, when were we *not* working??

BUT! We’re not complaining. That season of life was good to us…but THIS one, right now?

This one feels good.

Life is slower and sweeter and richer. We’re embracing the ebb and flow of the seasons, our days filled with more presence and peace. Doing less…and yet the work is deeper, more meaningful. We have more time to BE with one another, to watch our babies grow, to play. And we’re attracting community and clients who truly see and value what we have to share, and are eager to be a part of it!

This is one instance where less definitely *is* more - and we couldn’t be more grateful 😌

You won’t be able to find us nearly every day of the month these days, but you CAN find us!

On 7/25 we’ll be @saltoasis with @earthnbloom hosting our signature Mineral Shamanic Sound Bath…

We began the day with @ngolapretovelho and our usual Saturday morning capoeira flow over @thegarciacenterforthearts in sunny San Bernardino, and closed out the evening with the sweetest sound meditation and healing circle @mpoweryoga_studio in our old stomping grounds in Claremont.

Today’s evening group was so energetic and open, everyone willing and ready to drop into presence to share and receive the medicine of not just the music, but our collective prayers and intentions too.

One guest prayed for lasting, BIG TIME ✨ABUNDANCE✨ for everyone present…

And we felt inspired to share this generous prayer with you too - since you’re a precious member of our virtual circle!

Did you know rare white and yellow poppy flowers are caused by a genetic mutation initiated by commercial poppy distributors attempting to cultivate new poppy varieties?

Poppies with two normal gene copies are orange, those with one normal and one mutant copy are yellow, and those with two mutant copies are white.

Mutant or not, we love the way these stunning flowers light up our world this time of year!

We snapped these photos intending to add them to our website, hoping this drum would find its forever home…

And within an hour or two, well before we’d even begun creating the product listing, we got a call from a dear friend of ours - and shortly after that, this drum was in her arms.

The day was equally marked by moments of deep reverence, reflection, and presence…and also play, silliness, and so much laughter! The best combo!

We are infinitely thankful for the unique medicine brewed each time we get to hold space like this, witnessing everyone share their gifts, insights, and experience with such intimacy and intention.

The highlight of the day was definitely when the rain spontaneously came down at jussst the right moment and everyone held their hides up to be kissed by the blessed spring waters.

Such a beautiful thing to witness and the very best way to welcome a new season of growth and rebirth 🥹🙏🏽🌱

These gatherings will encompass rituals, healing modalities, and practical advice to empower you on your journey.

This is a bit of a personal share…

But if there’s one piece of advice I’d give absolutely anyone and everyone, but especially my younger self, it would be this:

LET SPACE HAPPEN FOR YOU.

I’ve spent the last couple years intentionally cultivating a sense of spaciousness in my life, and it is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever given myself.

Without getting into the nitty-gritty, my upbringing molded me into a *professional* textbook people pleaser…

While on the outside I had taken on all the qualities of an energetic, independent high-achiever, mediator, and peace-maker…

I also became extremely adept at overriding and masking my own feelings and needs, even developing the ability to (mostly) camouflage and redirect the compulsory physical and verbal tics I’ve experienced since I was about 3 or 4 years old.

I began to attach my own wellness to the degree of comfort or happiness of those in my immediate environment, and though I was really good at measuring the value I created for others, I was total sh*t at creating value for myself.

As a result, I developed a deeply ingrained fear of conflict, flimsy boundaries, and would almost always say yes to helping someone, even if I didn’t truly have the space for it.

I’ve done a lot of work around this, so when these patterns began to show up again, bringing anxiety and overwhelm with them, I knew I needed a major break.

I stepped back. I disengaged from the people and things which were doing nothing but draining my energy. I said no, a LOT.

And I remembered it’s not my job to regulate the people around me or “make” anything happen.

For the first real time in my life, I embraced rest, ease, and spaciousness for my SELF.

And while I figured it would erase stress, what I didn’t expect was that it would help me rediscover my voice, gain sooo much time and energy, and raise my standards to actually reflect the value I create in the world.

Spaciousness breeds clarity and allows you to move from a place which organically feels more autonomous, centered, and TRUE to you - but you can’t get there if you don’t learn to cherish the lull, the breath, the pause…and allow things to unfold the way they’re meant to.

And since everybody’s out there crafting resolutions and looking to *CRUSH* all their 2024 goals, this feels like an important time to remind you…

A) If y’all are here with us in the Northern Hemisphere, IT IS WINTERTIME. Do what you gotta do, but remember to take it easy. Lots of the world is still hibernating and it’s okay if you are too 🥱

B) Magick, and movement, and momentum is born in the little, fleeting moments and practices you choose each day.

In a culture which glamorizes instant gratification and “overnight” success, we’re often fed the idea that faster is better, more is more, and if you’re not producing hard, tangible results every waking day of your life, there’s something wrong with you.

Cue Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” and SOB with us because honestly, HOW TRAGIC 🕺🏽😵‍💫🫠😫

If you are measuring your value by how busy you are or waiting to feel happy or worthy until you achieve that big goal, or reach that massive milestone, or become that new person, you are missing what’s right in front of you.

2022 was the year we BURNT OUT 😮‍💨

Not to be dramatic, but at one point, we seriously considered throwing in the towel, packin’ our bags, and starting a new life in a faraway land…

While the idea was tantalizing, the reality was, we were already stretched so thin, the thought of uprooting our entire world to begin anew was (almost) enough to bring us to tears 🫠

Luckily, life has a way of creating the change we truly need, even if it’s not what we may have first envisioned…

So, come 2023, instead of rushing off into the horizon with our hair trailing in the wind, we slowed way, waaay down.

And for the first time in *LORD ONLY KNOWS* how long, instead of attuning ourselves to the needs of others, trying to contort ourselves into impossible knots to meet the requests and projections of everyone around us…

Instead of saying yes to an insatiable list of ever evolving desires we had hoped to somehow be able to fulfill…

WE SAID *bleeep* NO - to just about everything and everyone.

And you know what that glorious ✨NO✨ gifted us??

The ability to tune into our own feelings, needs, and longings with crystal CLARITY.

In 2023, we gained perspective.

And in 2024, we’re setting boundaries 😍

Here are *3 MAJOR THINGS* we’re ditching this year - and what we’re honoring instead ❤️‍🔥

1️⃣ No more negative self-talk! Yes, even the talk that just stays in your head. This year, we’re choosing COMPASSION over CRITICISM and honoring the fact that we are HUMAN BEINGS first!

2️⃣ No more comparison - the *actual thief* of joy! Whatever’s going on outside is NOISE, 99.9% of the time.

3️⃣ For the love of GOD, no more people pleasing! This should’ve been first on the list, but we’re saving the best for last so it sticks! Moving through the world with the intent to please and appease and serve EVERYONE is the quickest way to burn out. There will *always* be someone out there opposed to the energy, or values, or mission you stand for. Someone who thinks they can do it better. Someone with an OPINION. Let ‘em be and put yourself in spaces where your energy is RECIPROCATED.

We share less and less of our personal family moments in this space, but here’s to that one time (a few weeks back) we were all but booted from the snobbiest, stalest museum in LA just for going with our mini humans 😆🤌🏽

Toning in Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms was still pretty sweet though.

5 + 6. “Look mom, I maded you a baby heart leaf!” by Ikal (arguably the finest art we saw all day)

7. Moments before nommin’ on the ñummiest homestyle Hawaiian food @eatbrokenmouth 🤤

8 + 9. “The Right People” and “Those Other People” by Ed Ruscha - entirely fitting for the times…probably all of them, forever.

10. Sacred Soundscape + Healing Circle with @wakingseed x @unearthedwellnesscenter tomorrow, November 21 // 7pm!

As parents we’ve learned not every space is welcoming or accepting of children, which is totally LAME, but…we get it.

Our Sound Ceremonies, however, ARE.

We’re asked quite a lot if youngins are able to join our offerings too, and the answer we typically give is this:

If you feel your child would genuinely *enjoy* the experience and can sit or lie down comfortably for up to 60 minutes without being disruptive, then throw their jammies on and come on over!

And to be honest, when we’ve had younger littles join us who have trouble being still for that long, once we feel them start to get antsy, we just put ‘em to work! 😆

It’s the sweetest thing to see a parent’s shock and awe when they learn their own children helped to facilitate the relaxing sound therapy they’ve just experienced 🥰

And the rest of the room is always pleasantly surprised too!

Maybe we’re biased, but spaces meant for art and healing should welcome the presence and magickal influence of children.
